About Tara Bella Winery
Tara Bella Winery combines two languages and two aesthetic traditions: the Irish Gaelic tara (rocky hill or high place, as in the Hill of Tara where Irish kings were crowned) and the Italian bella (beautiful). Together they declare 'beautiful high place' — wine grown on the elevated hillside terrain that the dual-language naming describes.
The Thomas Road estate in the Sonoma Valley produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Zinfandel from hillside vineyard blocks where elevation above the Sonoma Valley floor creates cooler growing conditions and the volcanic-influenced soils produce wines of more structural character than valley-floor blocks typically achieve.
The daily walk-in format on Thomas Road is dog-friendly, picnic-welcoming, and family-hospitable — the Gaelic-Italian beautiful-high-place hospitality applied to Sonoma Valley wine country.
