About Terra d'Oro Winery
Terra d'Oro is named for the golden earth — terra d'oro in Italian, the phrase that declares both the Gold Rush historical identity (this was literally the terra d'oro that drew 300,000 prospectors to California in 1849) and the Amador County viticulture's current purpose. The golden-hued decomposed granite soils of the Sierra Foothills that once yielded gold now yield Zinfandel and Barbera of unusual depth and warmth.
The Mondavi family's Amador County label produces Zinfandel, Barbera, Petite Sirah, and Port from Shenandoah Valley vineyard sources with the Italian golden-earth naming that honors the region's mining and agricultural heritage simultaneously. Wine Spectator has scored Terra d'Oro's Shenandoah Valley Zinfandel at 88–92 points.
