About Terre Rouge & Easton Wines
Terre Rouge & Easton Wines operates under a dual identity: Terre Rouge (French for 'red earth,' naming the iron-rich, red-tinged Sierra Foothills clay soils) for the Rhône variety program, and Easton (Bill Easton's English-heritage surname) for the Zinfandel and Italian variety program. Two names, two philosophical traditions, one estate on Dickson Road in the Shenandoah Valley.
Bill Easton and Jane O'Riordan established the estate in 1986, making them among Amador County's most historically founding Rhône variety producers in California. The Terre Rouge Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Roussanne from Sierra Foothills vineyard sources have helped establish the region as a serious Rhône variety growing zone.
Wine Advocate has scored Terre Rouge's Syrah, Grenache, and Easton's Zinfandel at 90–94 points, recognizing both the quality of the Sierra Foothills sourcing and the estate's decades of accumulated knowledge of this specific mountain terroir.
