About Caldwell / Sunny Slope Wine Country
Caldwell's Sunny Slope district is Idaho wine country's most concentrated destination — a cluster of 10+ estate wineries and tasting rooms along the Snake River Valley floor at 2,700 feet, producing some of the Pacific Northwest's most exciting Syrah, Tempranillo, Riesling, and Cabernet Franc.
The volcanic basalt soils, 300+ days of sunshine, and wide diurnal temperature swings create growing conditions that would be envied by producers in much more famous wine regions. Idaho wine remains undervalued relative to its quality — which makes this one of the most rewarding value-discovery destinations in American wine.
Most tasting rooms in the Sunny Slope area are open weekends, with some open Thursday through Sunday during the peak season. A half-day in the area can easily cover four or five producers.
