Turley Wine Cellars is one of California's most celebrated Zinfandel and Petite Syrah producers, founded in 1993 in the Napa Valley by former emergency-room physician Larry Turley. Under longtime winemaker Tegan Passalacqua, Turley makes dozens of single-vineyard wines from old-vine sites across the state, many with vines dating to the late 1800s, farmed organically with a mission to preserve California's historic vineyards.
This is Turley's Amador County tasting room, in the Shenandoah Valley of the Sierra Foothills at 10851 Shenandoah Road in Plymouth. Larry Turley acquired the property in 2012, and it has become a relaxed Gold Country destination for tasting the winery's Zinfandels and other reds, several sourced from historic Amador and Fiddletown vineyards such as the 1860s-era Rinaldi site.
The tasting room is casual and welcoming, with a covered patio overlooking the vineyards, group seating and, on many weekends, wood-fired pizza and live music. It is generally open toward the end of the week and on weekends; reservations are recommended though walk-ins are accommodated as space allows, so it is best to confirm current hours and book directly with the winery.
