Ventana Vineyards takes its name from the Spanish ventana — window, the opening in a wall that allows light and air to pass through. The Ventana naming declares the estate as a window into Monterey County wine: the transparency that allows the viewer to see what lies beyond, the aperture that reveals the Arroyo Seco terroir's character. Established in 1978, Ventana is one of Monterey County's historically founding modern wine estates, one of the early estates to demonstrate that the Arroyo Seco's wind-swept, rocky riverbed terrain could produce Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc of national quality. The estate produces Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer from Arroyo Seco estate vineyard sources.
