About Vino Vargas
Vino Vargas was a family-owned boutique winery in the hills of San Miguel, on the west side of the Paso Robles wine region, founded in 2011 by winemaker Pedro Vargas, who trained at UC Davis, and his wife Vicky Vargas, a certified sommelier, after earlier careers in high tech. Tastings were personal and by appointment, hosted by the couple themselves amid vineyards and horse pastures.
The winery was known for its handmade Paso Doble sparkling wines, produced in the methode champenoise tradition of Champagne, alongside single-vineyard and small-lot reds and whites - Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cabernet-based blends, plus Chardonnay, Viognier and Albarino. The wines earned a number of awards over the years.
Pedro and Vicky Vargas have since retired from the wine business, and Vino Vargas is no longer operating as a public winery. This page is kept for reference; anyone holding the winery's wines can enjoy them as the last of a warmly remembered small Paso Robles producer.
