About Westfall Winery

Westfall Winery is closed. The Montague Township farm winery in New Jersey's northwest corner was sold in December 2017 and the property became an animal sanctuary; visitor guides now list it as permanently closed. It was run by Loren and Georgene Mortimer along with Charles Mortimer, and it took its name from the Westfall family, who owned the farm from 1774 to 1940.

The ground had a long life before the vines went in. The property served as a stop on the Underground Railroad and later as a dairy farm, and the first vines were planted in 2000, with the winery opening to the public in 2003. Westfall worked about six cultivated acres and made roughly 9,000 cases a year, much of it from purchased grapes, and it poured fruit wines beside the grape wines, including apple, blackberry, blueberry, cranberry and peach.

The winery stood at 141 Clove Road in Montague, Sussex County, in the High Point country of the New Jersey Skylands, and it kept regular daytime hours through its run. That address no longer operates as a winery, so the hours and tasting details shown on this page should be read as historical. Confirm current details before planning any visit to the area.

This winery is listed here for reference. It is closed, so there is no tasting room to visit.

A farmstead named for its 1774 owners poured fruit wine for fourteen years, then became an animal sanctuary.
