About Alfaro Family Vineyards & Winery
Alfaro Family Vineyards began with bread. Richard Alfaro built Alfaro's Micro Bakery into a Bay Area wholesale name, then traded flour for fruit in 1997, buying an aging 75-acre apple farm in the Corralitos hills with his wife Mary Kay, a certified sommelier. Today roughly 60 acres are under vine at the cool southern end of the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, where Monterey Bay air slows ripening on south-facing slopes between 500 and 650 feet.
The estate-grown, estate-bottled lineup runs Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Syrah plus a genuine rarity for the region - Gruner Veltliner. The flagship Alfaro Family Vineyard block alone spans nine Pinot Noir parcels across six clones, and the whole family, kids and namesake vineyards included, appears in the Laurie Zeszut harvest painting on the label.
Saturday afternoons are the ritual: the onsite tasting room pours flights of six or more wines (complimentary for club members) at indoor and outdoor bars, with a deck and picnic areas hanging over the vines and frequent food pop-ups from smash burgers to sausages from the beloved Corralitos Market down the road. Leashed dogs are welcome. Confirm current hours before visiting.
A master baker's second act - 60 Corralitos acres of Pinot, Chardonnay, and California's rare Gruner Veltliner.
