About Ambar Estate

Ambar Estate sits on Worden Hill Road in the Dundee Hills, on the Jory volcanic clay that gives the area its red hills their name. The vineyard is the first in the Willamette Valley to earn Regenerative Organic Certification, a standard that goes beyond USDA organic to take in soil health, biodiversity, carbon and the conditions farmworkers work under. The estate is also LIVE, Salmon Safe and Bee Friendly certified.

The tasting room opened on the summer solstice in June 2024 and is worth the trip on its own. Juancarlos Fernandez of Signum Architecture designed three small glass-walled structures totalling around 2,520 square feet, arranged around a heritage redwood and raised on a low plinth so the building foundations sit at the level of the tree's roots. The landscaping is by Hoichi Kurisu, who designed the Portland Japanese Garden.

The glass walls open onto the estate vineyard with Mount Hood in the distance. Inside, the three buildings hold the main tasting room, a private tasting space and back-of-house.

The wines are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, made from estate fruit with the stated ambition of building structure that will age; rose of Pinot Noir and sparkling wines have been signalled to follow. Visits are seated rather than casual. There is an a la carte menu, a four-course Pairings Experience in the private room, and a cheese flight curated with Cowbell Creamery. Limited releases go to the Ambar Circle membership rather than the tasting room.

The Willamette Valley's first Regenerative Organic Certified vineyard, with a tasting room built around a redwood tree.
