About Angeleno Wine Company

Angeleno Wine Company holds a distinction no other winery in the city can claim: when Jasper Dickson and Amy Luftig Viste opened it in 2018, it became the first bonded winery in downtown Los Angeles in more than a century, reviving a tradition that Prohibition and urban sprawl had erased.

The tasting room sits in a converted fabrication warehouse in Chinatown, just north of downtown, strung with lights and full of easy energy. True to its name, Angeleno makes its wine in the city itself, from grapes grown entirely within Los Angeles County.

The fruit comes from small, sustainably farmed vineyards in the remote corners of the county, Agua Dulce and the Antelope Valley, and the cellar leans into unusual varietals rarely seen in California, among them Graciano, Godello, Loureiro, Treixadura, Tannat, and Alicante Bouschet. Grapes are picked early to preserve acidity, and the wines are made with minimal intervention and are 100 percent vegan.

The result is a lineup that is genuinely local and genuinely different, elegant, balanced wines meant to express what the winery calls a place where the desert meets the sea. Pets and kids are welcome, guests are encouraged to bring their own food, and the room is open Friday through Sunday.

"The first winery in downtown Los Angeles since Prohibition, making natural, vegan wines from unusual grapes grown right in LA County."
