About Barbieri & Kempe Wines

Barbieri and Kempe is what happens when a Master Sommelier marries a culinary professional: Paolo Barbieri, one of the rare holders of the MS title, and Erin Kempe, who honed her craft in Las Vegas's top kitchens, left the Strip in 2014 to pour their own wines full-time in Los Olivos, building on a label Paolo began in 2005.

Two brands share the room and the family's Buellton production facility: Barbieri leans into vibrant Rhone-styled reds, whites and roses, while Kempe focuses on bolder Bordeaux varieties, together spanning Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Syrah, Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Albarino from top county and Paso Robles vineyards.

The tasting room on Alamo Pintado Avenue doubles as a gourmet cheese shop, stocked with international cheeses, fresh baguettes, honey, jams and olive oils to pair with the flights, and there is a backyard patio for lingering, often supervised by Penny the winery dog. Paolo and Erin themselves are frequently pouring, and the room is wheelchair accessible.
