About Baxter Vineyards & Winery
Baxter Vineyards in historic Nauvoo is Illinois's oldest winery, founded in 1857 by French Icarian settlers on the banks of the Mississippi River. The fifth-generation family operation still produces wine, cheese-paired tastings, and its famous grape juice in one of the state's most storied river towns.
A visit doubles as a history lesson, from pioneer-era cellars to Nauvoo's remarkable heritage district. It anchors the Mississippi Valley Wine Trail with over 165 years of continuous winemaking.
