About BoaVentura de Caires Winery
BoaVentura de Caires Winery crowns a sunny five-acre hilltop in the southeast corner of the Livermore Valley, founded in 1999 by Brett Caires and named for his great-grandfather BoaVentura Baptiste de Caires, whose name translates as Good Venture. Brett and Monique transformed the Tesla Road property into a flourishing vineyard and winery whose spirit stays true to the name: handcrafted, estate-grown, and thoroughly unpretentious.
The wines are small-lot and full-bodied, hand-picked from the estate with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah at the core alongside blends, unusual reds and dessert wines, made for originality, integrity and complexity without demanding attention. The setting does its share of the charming too: a red barn, resident chickens and horses, a clawfoot bathtub among the vines, and valley views stretching across rolling hills and painted skies.
Visitors get the run of two large picnic lawns and a bocce court, with kids and dogs both welcome, which has made the hilltop a favorite for lazy afternoons and small weddings. The tasting room opens weekend afternoons with appointments available beyond that; the schedule has varied over the years, so check before making the drive out Tesla Road.
