Randall Grahm's iconoclastic winery established in 1983 pioneered Rhône and Italian varieties in California through wit, intellectual curiosity, and a refusal to follow conventional wine wisdom. The estate's Cigare Volant (flying saucer Châteauneuf-du-Pape tribute), Ca' del Solo Italian varieties, and Vin Gris de Cigare rosé established Grahm as California's most original wine thinker. Wine Advocate has scored Bonny Doon at 89–94 points.
