About Carmody McKnight Estate Wines
Carmody McKnight is one of Paso Robles' most distinctive and scenic estates, founded in the Adelaida hills by actor and painter Gary Conway (of Burke's Law and Land of the Giants) and his wife, former Miss America Marian McKnight. The estate sits on rare soils formed by three ancient volcanoes, a mix of limestone, volcanic rock, and montmorillonite so unusual it has been studied by universities, and the wines, organic and made with minimal intervention, include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, and the Cadenza blend.
The setting is idyllic and low-key: giant oaks, a lawn sloping to a pond, and picnic tables set out for lingering afternoons. Inside is an art gallery of Gary Conway's bold, colorful paintings, the same artwork that graces the wine labels, and tastings are often hosted by the family themselves. Off the beaten track and often called Paso's most visually stunning winery, it rewards anyone who makes the drive.
