About Casa Cassara Winery & Vineyard
Casa Cassara is a Sicilian-American family story three generations deep. Bennie Cassara bought a remote 35-acre parcel in what would become the Sta. Rita Hills in 1981, planted Chardonnay and then Pinot Noir at the urging of neighbor Bryan Babcock, and after Babcock himself made the first tiny lots from the fruit, released the first Casa Cassara Estate Pinot Noir with the 1999 vintage. The family's winemaking roots go back further still, to a grandfather who made wine through the early 1900s.
Estate Pinot Noir from the mountain vineyard, sitting at about 880 feet with views across the appellation, remains the flagship, joined by Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and small Winemaker Reserve barrel selections, all limited-production and steadily decorated at competitions. The family run the operation to this day.
The tasting room now sits on Mission Drive in Solvang, where Casa Cassara was honored as the town's 2020 Winery of the Year. It is a first-come, first-served, bring-the-family-and-the-dog kind of room, open most days from noon into the early evening and closed Tuesdays.
