About Charles R Vineyards

Charles R Vineyards hides at the end of an old mine road in the golden hills of the south Livermore Valley, where the Bartlett family has held the property since 1978. The wine chapter began when Charles R, known to everyone as Dick, retired and converted his warehouse into a bonded storage cellar for local boutique wineries; one taste of the business led to another, and by 2002 three generations of Bartletts were crafting award-winning small lots under the family name.

Every grape is Livermore Valley grown, feeding a lineup of white and red varietals that includes a locally loved Touriga and a popular dessert wine famously poured with a brownie in the tasting room. The rustic room and its associates carry a reputation for genuine warmth and deep knowledge of the neighboring wineries, and Dick himself has long been a beloved fixture around the property.

The real signature is the garden: a patio shaded by large oaks beside a creek, called by guests the best backyard-style picnic spot in the valley, where visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, catch weekend live music, ukulele jams and open mics, and settle in for the afternoon. Note the approach uses a dual address, 8195 Crane Ridge Road via 5800 Greenville Road, so follow the winery's directions rather than GPS guesswork.
