About Chateau St. Jean
Chateau St. Jean was founded in 1973 at a gracious 1920s country estate in Kenwood, at the foot of Sugarloaf Ridge in Sonoma Valley, and made its name through the work of founding winemaker Richard Arrowood, who pioneered vineyard-designated Chardonnays there through the 1970s before eventually launching his own namesake winery. The chateau's formal gardens and historic villa made it one of Sonoma Valley's grandest tasting destinations.
The winery's flagship Cinq Cépages, a Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend of all five classic Bordeaux varieties, vaulted Chateau St. Jean to national fame when the 1996 vintage was named Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year, a rare honor for a Sonoma red. After years under Treasury Wine Estates, the property joined Foley Family Wines in 2021, continuing its long run as a Sonoma Valley landmark.
