Chatom Vineyards is named for the combination of two family ranch names — a portmanteau that creates a new estate identity from the merger of the founding family's separate agricultural properties. The combined name declared a new unified estate from previously separate parcels, the portmanteau as an act of agricultural integration.
Established in 1985, Chatom is one of Calaveras County's founding modern wine estates, producing Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc from Douglas Flat estate vineyard terrain. The Highway 4 location in the Stanislaus National Forest foothills puts the estate in Calaveras County's most scenic wine country corridor.
