About Compris Vineyard

Compris farms a 12.5-acre estate on Hillside Drive in the Chehalem Mountains, on a site that operated for years as Vidon Vineyard before the change of name and ownership. The vineyard is organically farmed and certified by both LIVE and Salmon Safe.

The planting is deliberately wider than the valley norm. Alongside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay there is Viognier, Syrah and Tempranillo, which the winery puts down to the mix of soils, elevations and exposures across a fairly small hillside. Winemaking is described as hands-off, with small batches and minimal intervention.

The tasting room sits among the vines and gives a direct view of the working side of the operation. There is a covered patio with heaters and blankets, a terrace looking out over the vineyard toward the Dundee Hills in the distance, and an indoor room for when the weather turns, which in this part of Oregon it will.

The winery is explicit about wanting the wine community to be a more welcoming and diverse place, and frames hospitality around belonging rather than expertise. Tasting flights run around thirty dollars, with glass pours, bottles and charcuterie available, and well-behaved dogs are welcome on the patio on a leash.

Viognier, Syrah and Tempranillo on a small Chehalem Mountains hillside, and a stated mission about who feels welcome.
