About Cottonwood Canyon Vineyard & Winery
Cottonwood Canyon anchors the northernmost end of the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail, a 78-acre Santa Maria Valley estate founded by the Beko family in 1988, just 19 miles from the Pacific with the San Rafael Mountains as a backdrop. The estate grows Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah on a sandy, gravelly mesa, farmed row by row and vine by vine, and the house style aims for age-worthy, Burgundian-leaning wines the family calls distinctively different.
The property is one of the area's most unusual to visit: real underground wine caves sit beneath the hillside tasting room, with cave tours and barrel tastings offered by appointment, an outdoor amphitheater hosting concerts, and patios and terraces looking over the vines. The tasting bar is also one of the few in the county regularly pouring older library vintages.
The tasting room runs Thursday through Monday from 11 to 5, with evening hours during events, picnics welcome and a relaxed, off-the-beaten-path feel that rewards the short detour off Highway 101.
