About Deux Amis Winery

Deux Amis, French for two friends, was founded in 1987 by winemakers Phyllis Zouzounis and Jim Penpraze, who started with a single hundred-case lot of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. Nearly four decades on, it is very much Phyllis's project: one of Sonoma County's pioneering professional female winemakers, she began at Dry Creek Vineyard in 1980, went on to make wine at Mazzocco, and has spent a career championing Zinfandel. After Jim retired in 2013 she carried the label forward, and it now operates under the Zouzounis Wines name as well.

Zinfandel remains the heart of what she does, sourced from old and distinctive vineyards across the Dry Creek and Alexander valleys, alongside a bold Petite Sirah and a handful of other reds, a rose and a port. Production stays small, and the wines have collected competition medals over the years.

Tastings are intimate and personal. The winery pours in a small Windsor tasting room, where the winemaker does things her own way and visitors get the undivided attention of someone who has been making Sonoma Zinfandel for over thirty years. Calling ahead is wise.
