Best Dundee Hills Wineries (2026)

The red-soiled heart of Oregon Pinot Noir, where the Willamette Valley wine industry was born. Updated for 2026.

The Dundee Hills is the beating heart of Oregon Pinot Noir, the small range of red-soiled hills northwest of the town of Dundee where the modern Willamette Valley wine industry was effectively born. It was here, in 1966, that David Lett planted the valley's first Pinot Noir at The Eyrie Vineyards, and pioneers like Dick Erath and the Sokol Blosser family soon followed, clearing the south-facing slopes that became some of Oregon's first vineyards. The Dundee Hills became the Willamette Valley's first sub-appellation in 2004. Its signature is the deep, iron-rich red volcanic Jory soil, formed from ancient Columbia River basalts, which, combined with elevations from roughly 200 to over 1,000 feet, yields Pinot Noir that is classically bright, red-fruited, silky, and subtly earthy. It remains Oregon's most famous and most visited wine district.

Below are the Dundee Hills wineries we recommend most, from founding pioneers to prestige estates and Oregon's sparkling benchmark. Current as of October 2026.

How to choose

Planning your visit

The Dundee Hills sit about 45 minutes southwest of Portland, making the city an easy base, or stay in the charming towns of Dundee, Newberg, or McMinnville in the heart of wine country. Estates cluster on the red hills off the Worden Hill Road and Fairview/Breyman Orchards loops, so you can visit several within a short drive, and the town of Dundee itself has walkable tasting rooms including Argyle. Plan three or four stops, mix a founding pioneer with a prestige estate and a sparkling tasting, and visit late spring through fall; harvest in September and October is gorgeous but busy, so book ahead. Many estates now take reservations even for standard tastings.

What to avoid

Do not rush the Dundee Hills; the roads are winding and the estates are worth lingering over, so plan a relaxed three or four stops rather than a dash. Do not skip the sparkling at Argyle, Oregon's best bubbles come from here. And do not assume you can walk in, many Dundee Hills estates now take reservations, so check ahead, especially on weekends and during harvest.
