About Eco Terreno Wines

Eco Terreno is a certified biodynamic and organic estate at the northern end of Alexander Valley, near Cloverdale on the banks of the Russian River. It is the project of Mark Lyon, who spent 36 years as head winemaker at Sebastiani, where he built a reputation for high-end Cabernet, before founding Eco Terreno in 2012 on land he had farmed since 1980, originally planted by Rodney Strong in the 1970s. The name means, loosely, ecology of the land, and that ethos drives everything: the roughly 100-acre farm is Demeter-certified biodynamic and organic, with cover crops, on-site compost and sheep, chickens and ducks working among the vines.

The wines are 100% estate-grown and lean Bordeaux, led by Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc from some of Sonoma's oldest producing vines, and Bordeaux-style blends, made in small lots and regularly earning strong scores.

Tasting happens in two settings. Guests can visit the Alexander Valley estate for vineyard tours and tastings by appointment, or stop by Eco Terreno's urban tasting room in San Francisco's historic Jackson Square, which also hosts wine-paired culinary events. It is a gay-owned winery with a pronounced commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
