About Ehret Family Winery
Ehret Family Winery is a small, family-run producer built around one of Sonoma County's warmer and less-celebrated Cabernet regions: Knights Valley, at the county's northeastern edge near the Napa line. The Ehret family has farmed its estate, the Bavarian Lion Vineyard, for three generations, growing top-quality Bordeaux varieties since 1996 and selling much of the fruit to prestigious Napa and Sonoma wineries. In 2005, Pierre and Susan Ehret began holding back their best grapes to make wine under their own label.
The vineyard's high-elevation, gravelly soils and warm days tempered by cool nights are tailor-made for Cabernet Sauvignon, and that is the winery's calling card, alongside Merlot and Bordeaux-style blends. Acclaimed winemaker Erin Green crafts the wines in tiny quantities, total production is around 1,500 cases, and they routinely earn gold medals and 90-plus-point scores while remaining ageworthy and well-priced.
There are two ways to experience Ehret. The family runs a tasting room in downtown Healdsburg, where guided tastings are led by a member of the family, and offers a Vineyard Safari Experience out at the Knights Valley estate for a closer look at where the wines are grown.
