About Fellom Ranch Vineyards
Fellom Ranch has been in the family since 1929, and the vineyards ride one of California's most storied addresses: Montebello Ridge, at 2,200 feet above Cupertino in the Santa Cruz Mountains, sixteen miles from the Pacific as the crow flies. The site is a geology lesson in a glass - ancient uplifted seabed limestone soils inside the San Andreas fault zone, cooled by marine advection fog rolling over the ridgeline.
The house specialty is estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon in a classic Bordeaux register: hand-picked field blends with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, aged 24 months in French oak. The 2019 Estate Cabernet took Gold at the 2023 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, and the cellar reaches beyond the ridge too - a Russian River Valley Chardonnay, Saratoga-grown Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, and a Lime Kiln Valley late-harvest Zinfandel that earned Silver at the 2026 Chronicle. With four decades of winemaking behind it, production stays a true micro operation, rarely exceeding 1,500 cases, farmed with environmentally sustainable methods wherever possible.
Visits run by appointment only in the outdoor tasting space - seasonal and weather permitting, closed through the winter months - at $20 per taster (21 and over), with limited group tastings for 8 to 12 guests. Wine sales continue year-round, and the family occasionally announces complimentary public tasting dates. Call (408) 741-0206 or email to arrange a visit up the same fabled road that leads to Ridge Monte Bello.
