About Garden Creek Ranch Vineyards & Winery

Garden Creek Ranch Vineyards & Winery is a private, family-owned estate hidden in the eastern hillsides of Alexander Valley, near Geyserville. It is run by husband-and-wife team Justin Miller and Karin Warnelius-Miller, third-generation winegrowers who farm, make and bottle everything on the 100-acre property. The family planted here in 1969, among the first to grow Cabernet in the valley, and has farmed organically and regeneratively for decades; the estate Cabernet vines are now well over 50 years old.

The wines are made with unusual patience and in tiny quantities, around 1,200 cases. The flagship is Tesserae, a Bordeaux-style red aged some seven years before release, joined by a clonal-selection Chardonnay and small lots of a white Rhone blend and an esoteric Scheurebe. Current releases are often eight years old, true library wines, reflecting the family's dedication to releasing them only when ready.

Visits are deeply personal and by appointment only, generally reserved for members on the mailing list. A visit begins with a walk through the historic vineyards and continues with a candlelit tasting in the barrel room, hosted by the vintners themselves, about as far from corporate wine country as Sonoma gets.
