Gros Ventre Cellars is named for the French gros ventre — literally 'big belly,' the name applied both to the Indigenous Atsina people of the northern plains (by French-Canadian fur traders who described their hand-gesturing communication) and to things of generous, full-bodied character. Applied to wine, the gros ventre philosophy declares wine of generous, full-bellied character — Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that are not shy, that fill the glass as fully as their name declares.
The Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay program sources from fog-corridor vineyard sites with the generous-character philosophy the French-Indigenous naming implies.
