About Gundlach Bundschu Winery

Gundlach Bundschu Winery holds a distinction shared by no other California winery: it is the oldest continuously family-owned winery in the state. Bavarian-born Jacob Gundlach founded the estate in 1858, months after Agoston Haraszthy established Buena Vista just down the road, and six generations of the Bundschu family have farmed the 320-acre Rhinefarm estate continuously ever since, through Prohibition, two World Wars, the 1906 earthquake, and the transformation of Sonoma County from a pastoral agricultural backwater to one of the world's most celebrated wine destinations.

The 320-acre Rhinefarm estate is now certified regenerative organic, a distinction that places Gundlach Bundschu at the leading edge of California's sustainability movement while honoring the German immigrant farming philosophy that Jacob Gundlach brought from Bavaria in 1858. The estate sits at the crossroads of the Sonoma Valley, Los Carneros, and Napa Valley AVAs, with diverse terrain that produces Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir from genuinely distinct micro-terroirs.

Beyond the wine, GunBun, as locals affectionately call it, has built one of Sonoma County's most beloved summer concert programs, hosting music in the estate's natural outdoor amphitheater with views across the Rhinefarm vineyard. Cave tours, picnic grounds, dogs, and families all welcomed.

The 2026 season at the Rhinefarm leans hard into live music. The winery debuts Soundcheck on Sunday, October 4 - an inaugural daytime festival with live acts on the Amphitheater stage led by Tropa Magica, DJ sets, local food trucks, and wine tasting experiences ($55 public, $35 for Bacchus Club members, kids 10 and under free). It joins a packed calendar: the monthly Rhinefarm Afterhours evening series of wine, culture, and vinyl sets; Beach Bunny and The Beths in concert on August 12; and the Sonoma Valley Vintage Festival Grand Tasting at the historic Sonoma Barracks, September 25-27.
