About Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard
Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is widely regarded as one of the finest Riesling producers in the United States. Founded in 1979 by Hermann Wiemer, who came from a 300-year winemaking family in Germany's Mosel Valley, the estate spans 80 acres of prime vineyard sites on the western slopes of Seneca Lake. Hermann recognized that the Finger Lakes' cool climate and gravelly soils mirrored the conditions of his family's homeland, and he devoted his career to proving that world-class vinifera wines could flourish here. The winery has been recognized for six consecutive years as one of the World's Top 100 Estates Magazine.
Today the winemaking team carries forward Hermann's vision with a low-intervention approach rooted in meticulous viticulture. All fruit is hand-harvested and sorted, fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts, and no additives are used, resulting in wines that are vegan and reflect pure terroir expression. The tasting room occupies a beautifully renovated barn on the property and offers guests the chance to choose from a sizable list of dry and semi-dry Rieslings, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, sparkling wines, and elegant Pinot Noirs.
