About Homewood Winery
Homewood Winery is a one-man, family-owned boutique in the Los Carneros region of Sonoma, run by proprietor and winemaker Dave Homewood. His path into wine was quick, he moved to California in 1979 and, by his own account, went from sweet whites to full-bodied reds within a month, and he began making wine at home in 1983 with a ton of Alexander Valley Cabernet and a couple of friends. He added Chardonnay the next year, bought his first Carneros fruit in 1986, and turned the operation into a bonded winery in 1988, starting at around 500 cases.
Dave never settled on a single varietal, and that shows in the lineup: a wide, ever-changing array of small-batch whites, reds, blends and dessert wines, made in a lighter, food-friendly style and sold only at the winery. A crowd favorite is his Merlot Port, often poured with a piece of white chocolate.
The tasting room is tucked down a little alleyway off the main road and leans rustic and unpretentious, complimentary or low-cost tastings, a dog-friendly patio nicknamed the Redder da Better Lounge, and the kind of casual, personal welcome that keeps regulars coming back.
