About Horse & Plow
Horse & Plow is named for the most basic tools of agricultural civilization — the horse and the plow, the combination that transformed landscape into farmland before mechanical agriculture existed. Chris and Meghan Pittenger's Sonoma County estate declares a return to these foundational principles: certified organic and biodynamic viticulture, minimal intervention winemaking, and a deep respect for the pre-industrial agricultural knowledge that produced wine for millennia before chemical farming was invented.
The estate sources Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from certified organic and biodynamic Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley vineyard sites, working with growers who share the horse-and-plow philosophy of farming with the land rather than against it. The resulting wines are honest expressions of their sites — what the certified organic Sonoma Coast produces when handled with the minimal intervention the horse-and-plow tradition implies.
The appointment-only format keeps the scale personal and the relationship between the Pittengers and their visitors engaged with the farming philosophy the name declares.
