Oakhurst's first winery

About Idle Hour Winery

Idle Hour Winery and Kitchen is a small, welcoming winery in Oakhurst, California, just outside the south entrance to Yosemite National Park in Madera County's stretch of Gold Country. It holds the distinction of being Oakhurst's first winery, founded by Anna Marie dos Remedios, a former food and wine columnist, together with partner Deb, who also own the adjoining Queen's Inn by the River.

The winery focuses on small-lot, single-vineyard-designated wines made from sustainably grown California grapes with minimal intervention, native yeasts and gentle gravity-flow methods. The lineup ranges across Viognier, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Touriga Nacional, in an elegant, food-friendly, European-leaning style rather than big, extracted bottlings.

Set on the Fresno River at the Queen's Inn, Idle Hour pairs its wines with a scratch kitchen of Mediterranean-inspired small plates, flatbreads and charcuterie, plus a wine bar, beer garden and pet-friendly patios, making it a popular stop for travelers heading to or from Yosemite. Because hours and menus change seasonally, it is best to confirm current details before visiting.
