J. Lohr Winery San Jose is the founding urban tasting room where Jerry Lohr first established his California wine vision. The Lenzen Avenue San Jose facility, operating since 1974 as J. For Silicon Valley professionals and Bay Area wine enthusiasts who want an urban tasting format in downtown San Jose with access to a family-farmed wine portfolio drawn from appellations across California, the founding Lenzen Avenue facility is the place to go. It is the founding J. Lohr facility and the most centrally located of the family's Bay Area tasting options.

The San Jose Wine Center is where J. Lohr began: Jerry Lohr opened the winery here in 1974 and it still pours seven days a week at 1000 Lenzen Avenue, about a mile south of The Alameda exit off Highway 880 and minutes from downtown and the airport. Walk-in guests are welcome for a standing seasonal tasting at the bar, while seated tastings run by reservation from 11am, with the last seating at 4:30pm and 3:30pm on Sundays; parties of six or more should call ahead. Two seated experiences are offered at roughly $30 and $60 per person, indoors or at a private outdoor table, with cheese, charcuterie, olives and chocolate available. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables only. J. Lohr farms more than 4,000 acres of certified sustainable estate vineyards across Paso Robles, Monterey County's Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands, and St. Helena, and remains family owned and operated fifty years on. The winery also produces the ARIEL range of alcohol-removed wines, which makes this a practical stop for a group that includes someone not drinking.
