About J. Moss Wines
J. Moss Wines was founded by James Moss, who made his first commercial vintage in 2000 after working as a wine wholesaler in Texas and learning winemaking hands-on at producers including Benziger and Cakebread Cellars. He and his wife Janet, whom he met while she worked in winemaking at Domaine Carneros, opened a tasting room in 2010; today the winery's tasting room and production facility are located at 901B Enterprise Way in Napa's 'Crusher District,' a wine-industry park south of downtown Napa, not in Yountville.
J. Moss makes vineyard-designated wines in small, open-top fermenters, keeping free-run and pressed juice separate until final blending, with a focus on single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville, Howell Mountain and Rutherford alongside Merlot, Chardonnay and rosé. Annual production is roughly 1,700 cases; James also planted about 500 Merlot vines from Perez Vineyard cuttings on his own residential hillside, one of Napa's first subdivision vineyards.
