Lucas Winery is David Lucas's founding personal label — his English-heritage family surname on one of Lodi's most historically significant small-production Zinfandel programs, established in 1978. Lucas is one of the Lodi wine region's most authentic voices: a winemaker deeply committed to the old-vine Zinfandel heritage of the Lodi Delta region and to producing wines that reflect the specific terroir character of the San Joaquin Delta's ancient vineyard plots.
The North Davis Road estate produces Zinfandel from old-vine Lodi estate blocks — the Z Vineyard Zinfandel in particular sourced from century-old head-pruned vines on the Lucas property. David Lucas was among the first Lodi winemakers to market his wines as single-vineyard, terroir-specific expressions rather than blended, regionally generic table wine, helping to establish the quality identity that Lodi's wine reputation now rests on.
