About Madrigal Family Winery
Madrigal Family Winery is named for the madrigal — the Italian Renaissance polyphonic vocal form in which multiple melodic lines weave together into a unified harmonic whole. Chris Madrigal's Italian-heritage family surname is also the name of one of the most sophisticated musical forms in European cultural history: each singer carrying an independent melodic line that only achieves its full meaning in combination with the others.
Applied to wine, the madrigal metaphor declares harmonic complexity: Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah that achieve their full character through the combination of volcanic mountain terroir, warm growing season, and patient winemaking — multiple elements woven into a unified whole. The Petite Sirah in particular benefits from this Calistoga volcanic character, producing wines of extraordinary dark intensity.
