About Nicolas-Jay

Nicolas-Jay comes out of a friendship more than thirty years old, between Jean-Nicolas Meo of Burgundy's Domaine Meo-Camuzet and Jay Boberg, the music entrepreneur who co-founded IRS Records. A 2011 visit to the Willamette Valley persuaded Boberg to act on a long-held interest in wine, and he put the idea of an Oregon winery to Meo, who was drawn to the prospect of working a new region after twenty-five years among Burgundy's grands and premiers crus.

The pair spent a long time looking before committing. In 2013 they bought Bishop Creek Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, an organically farmed site of roughly seven hectares planted to mature vines, and it became the estate block. The first vintage followed in 2014, made at Adelsheim and later at Sokol Blosser while the partnership had no winery of its own.

That changed in 2019, when they bought a 53-acre property in the Dundee Hills with some of the deepest Jory soils in the region and set about converting its cattle barn into a gravity-flow winery and tasting room. The first estate vines went in during 2021 and the tasting room opened the same year, built into the hillside with a walkway that lets visitors look down over the production floor as they arrive.

The range is Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with Chardonnay added in 2017. Alongside the L'Ensemble blend sit single-vineyard Pinot Noirs from Bishop Creek, Nysa, Momtazi and Temperance Hill, and Chardonnay as both an estate wine and the Affinites cuvee. Visits are by appointment, and the house phrase, viens avec nous, is an invitation to come along.
