About Norris Wines

Norris is a family-owned estate on Ribbon Ridge, and the claim it makes is a narrow one: everything is grown, harvested, fermented and bottled on the same property. Twelve and a half acres, two wines, no bought-in fruit.

The vines are dry-farmed on ancient marine sedimentary soils, with six variations of the Willakenzie series across a single southwest-facing slope. That aspect gives good ripening through the day while the evening winds cool things down, which suits both of the grapes grown here.

Those grapes are Pinot Noir and Riesling. Riesling is a minority interest in the Willamette Valley these days, so a producer treating it as a co-equal rather than a curiosity is worth noting; the winery offers a tasting devoted to it, working through library bottles alongside the current vintage. Robert is the winemaker, working to a stated philosophy of transparency and restraint.

Visits are seated and run about ninety minutes, either around the table or outside under the willow tree. Availability depends on what is happening on the property that day, which is what you would expect from a working farm of this size.

Twelve and a half acres, two grapes, and everything done on the same piece of ground.
