About Pike Road Wines
Pike Road exists because of a decision made next door. In 2015 Elk Cove Vineyards, founded by the Campbell family in 1974, moved to being one hundred per cent estate grown. That left decades of relationships with outside growers with nowhere to go. Rather than end them, the family started Pike Road in 2016 to keep buying the fruit.
So the sourcing is the point. Pike Road works with more than twenty family-owned farms across six sub-AVAs of the northern Willamette Valley: Chehalem Mountains, Dundee Hills, Eola-Amity Hills, Laurelwood, Tualatin Hills and Yamhill-Carlton. The stated aim is preserving small family farms through long partnerships rather than buying on the spot market.
Heather Perkin makes the wine, drawing on two decades at Elk Cove. The range covers Pinot Noir including single-vineyard bottlings, plus Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, rose and sparkling, and it is priced more approachably than much of the valley. Pike Road is part of Elk Cove's Certified B Corporation structure.
The name is literal. Pike Road is a real road running past the family's vineyards outside Yamhill and on into the Coast Range, through lowland farms, hazelnut orchards and tree nurseries. The tasting room itself is nowhere near it, sitting instead on Third Street in downtown McMinnville, which makes it an easy walk-in stop between restaurants rather than a drive out to a vineyard.
