About Privé Vineyard

Prive is small in a way that is worth stating plainly: the flagship estate on Chehalem Mountain is two and a half acres. The vines went in during 1980, which makes them among the oldest in the Chehalem Mountains AVA, and they are Pommard clone Pinot Noir, a selection that has become increasingly rare as newer Dijon clones took over Oregon planting.

The winery began making wine from that block in 2000 and has built everything since around it. To add estate fruit without diluting the idea, it later took on West Wind Vineyard, fifteen acres on Ribbon Ridge, a few miles north and a different proposition in soil terms.

The range covers Pinot Noir in two principal cuvees, Le Nord and Le Sud, along with Chardonnay, Syrah and a ruby port, which is an unusual thing to find in this part of the valley.

Visits are built as an experience rather than a pour. The full version runs an hour and a half to two hours: a walk through the estate vineyard, a look at the cellar, then a seated tasting paired with cheese and chocolate. Given the scale of the place, the hosting is genuinely one-to-one.

Two and a half acres of 1980 Pommard clone, and a tasting that takes two hours.

Genuinely old vines, planted in 1980, among the oldest in the Chehalem Mountains AVA.
Pommard clone, not Dijon,an older selection that has become scarce as Oregon replanted.
Tiny by design,a two-and-a-half-acre flagship block, with fifteen acres on Ribbon Ridge added later.
Port in Pinot country,a ruby port alongside the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah.
A proper visit,a vineyard walk, the cellar and a seated cheese-and-chocolate pairing, running up to two hours.
"One of the smallest estates in the valley, and one of the most unhurried visits."
