About Qupé
Qupe, named for the Chumash word for the golden California poppy, is a Central Coast pioneer founded in 1982 by Bob Lindquist, one of California's original Rhone Rangers. Long before Syrah was fashionable, Qupe was making age-worthy, balanced Syrah and white Rhone varieties like Marsanne and Roussanne, much of it from Santa Barbara's cool Santa Maria Valley, including the famed Bien Nacido Vineyard.
The house style favors freshness, restraint, and food-friendliness over sheer power, and the wines have a devoted following. For anyone interested in the roots of California Rhone wine, Qupe is essential drinking.
