Ozark Plateau Wine
Limestone and sandstone soils in the Ozark foothills of northeastern Oklahoma, where Norton, Cabernet Franc, and Vidal Blanc represent the state's most serious wine territory.
About Ozark Plateau Wine
The Ozark Mountain AVA covers northeastern Oklahoma near the Missouri and Arkansas borders, where rolling limestone hills, sandstone outcrops, and deciduous forest create growing conditions significantly different from the flat western prairies. This is Oklahoma's quality wine heartland, where producers work with Norton, Cabernet Franc, Vidal Blanc, and Chambourcin in soils with genuine mineral character. The region benefits from moderate elevations and more rainfall than western Oklahoma, though humidity can create disease pressure during the growing season. Several producers have earned national competition medals, and the area is developing a wine trail infrastructure that connects wineries through the scenic Ozark foothills.
