About Yakima Valley Wine

The Yakima Valley was Washington State's first commercially planted wine region, and it remains one of its most important. Stretching from the Rattlesnake Hills above the city of Yakima southeast through Prosser and Benton City to the Red Mountain AVA, the valley encompasses some of America's most exciting wine terroir. Red Mountain, in particular, has earned a reputation for producing Cabernet Sauvignon of extraordinary power and complexity from volcanic basalt and windblown loess soils at 1,300 feet. Col Solare, Hedges Family Estate, and Fidelitas are among the Red Mountain producers attracting national attention. The broader Yakima Valley is more diverse, producing everything from elegant Riesling to rich Syrah across a range of elevations and soil types.
