About Remy Wines
Remy Drabkin grew up in McMinnville and decided early. She was set on wine by eight, worked her first harvest at fourteen and was studying winemaking abroad at seventeen. She founded Remy Wines in 2006, and rather than join the valley's Pinot Noir consensus she went after the red grapes of northern Italy.
That meant Lagrein, Sangiovese, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Barbera grown in Oregon - unusual then and still uncommon. When she committed to Lagrein there was reportedly about one acre of it planted in the entire state, so she gave two acres of the family vineyard over to it; the variety is native to Alto Adige and has a reputation for being difficult, which was part of the appeal.
The winery began in shared space near Gaston, moved into its own quarters in McMinnville's Granary District in 2009, and the tasting room now occupies a 1900s farmhouse on the family's Three Wives Vineyard in the Dundee Hills. In the summer of 2022 a 5,000-square-foot winery went up beside it, built using a carbon-neutral concrete formula that carries her name.
The portfolio runs across three labels: Remy Wines for single-varietal northern Italian reds, Three Wives for more accessible white, red and rose cuvees named in tribute to her family, and the Black Heart series, which takes in Super Tuscan-inspired reds, Bordeaux-style blends, Chardonnay and a methode champenoise sparkling. The winery is also known for community work, including hosting the Queer Wine Fest for LGBTQ+ winemakers.
