About Saucelito Canyon Vineyard

Saucelito Canyon farms some of California's oldest Zinfandel: vines planted in 1880 by English settler Henry Ditmas in a remote fold of the upper Arroyo Grande Valley. Abandoned for decades, the original three acres of head-trained, dry-farmed vines were rediscovered and painstakingly restored by Bill Greenough starting in 1974, and the ancient plants still produce fruit nearly a century and a half after planting.

The Greenough family continues to farm the historic block along with newer plantings, producing old-vine Zinfandel of unusual elegance for the variety, along with small lots of other estate wines. A tasting room on Highway 227 in the Edna Valley pours the wines within sight of the family's other vineyards, while the original 1880 vineyard remains tucked in its secluded canyon.
