About Six Hands Winery
Six Hands Winery is the quintessential small family farm of the Sacramento River Delta. The estate near Walnut Grove has been farmed for four generations, beginning with Joseph Machado in the early 1900s, and today the Marks family tends vineyards and cherry orchards that surround the ancestral family home and winery. The Syrah and Viognier blocks went in back in 1994 on fine sandy loam, and partner vineyards contribute Chenin Blanc vines dating to 1983 and Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah from 1987 - all sustainably farmed, with owl boxes standing in for pesticides.
The cellar turns eleven varietals - Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Carignane, and Zinfandel - into sixteen small-batch cuvees, made with as little intervention as possible. For several years the family also poured at Wine Social, a shared downtown Lodi wine bar with Sorelle Winery that has since closed; the Delta estate is where to find them now.
Visits run by appointment and through the winery's much-loved calendar of events - the annual Picnic in the Vineyard with Dixieland jazz has run for nearly three decades, alongside seasonal open houses and pairing days. Schedule a visit through the winery and confirm current details before making the drive out Isleton Road.
