About Sobon Estate

Sobon Estate occupies hallowed California ground: the historic D'Agostini Winery in Amador's Shenandoah Valley, founded in 1856 and among the state's oldest winery sites, which Leon and Shirley Sobon purchased in 1989 a decade after founding their nearby Shenandoah Vineyards. The Sobons, a Lockheed scientist turned winemaking family, restored the property, farm organically, and maintain a small museum in the original cellar honoring the site's Gold Rush-era legacy.

The estate's old-vine Zinfandels, including bottlings from vines with roots deep in the nineteenth century, anchor a lineup of Rhone varieties and hearty foothill reds at honest prices. Few tasting rooms anywhere pour wine inside this much history.
