About St. Amant Winery

St. Amant Winery is one of Lodi's pioneering artisan wineries, founded by Tim and Barbara Spencer, who planted their first grapes in the 1970s and were early advocates for Portuguese and Spanish varieties in California. Tim passed away in 2006, and his son Stuart Spencer, also the longtime program director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission, has carried the winery forward.

The wine that put St. Amant on the map is its Zinfandel from Marian's Vineyard, a 1901 planting on Mohr-Fry Ranches that is considered one of California's most important vineyard-designate Zinfandels. The winery is equally known for its Barbera, its Iberian and Portuguese bottlings, and its original Port-style fortified wines, which have collected top honors including Best Vintage Port at the California State Fair.

The tasting room sits in a historic post-Prohibition winery complex that once housed one of California's largest cooperative wineries. There are no picnic lawns or bocce courts here, just serious wine and straightforward hospitality. It can be tricky to find, which regulars consider part of the charm.

Home of the legendary Marian's Vineyard Zin, from a 1901 planting.
